Jungle Drum

Cat Blues

When I saw that tiger walking with difficulty, revealing an arthrosis, it brought tears to my eyes. But I guess zoos are also a good way to reintroduce animals or take care of the old ones... I wish they could just live peacefully in their natural environment.

This Picture

I have been taking an interest in photography since I first got here, not in an artistic attempt, but to use as many references as I could from such an amazing country (yes, that's what I've been doing all this time !). Sketching in the wild is not always easy, which is why capturing these images of Australia to paint them afterwards would improve my color sense (quite neglected I have to say), as well as being a nice subject. Color studies to come after some play with Lightroom !

Back in Black

I feel sorry for the few people left to pass by my blog, seeing at the too rare updates. But I can't publish the drawings from the project I am working on yet, and have barely some time outside to work on my owns So here are again pieces from our Wednesdays' life drawing sessions, 20s each.

Light My Fire

I have always wanted to draw a flipbook one day, and when my friend Magali performed fire Poi in Seal Rocks, I thought it would be a nice idea to create a meaningful one. Looking at the collage now make me think of an Asian signs alphabet, full of life, which would Magali's secret writing.

Link

I'll keep looking for the link between music and drawing, and I wish I could only draw music I listen to one day, not only the musicians...

New Born

After settling at the other side of the world, trying to get a connection and fighting for my blog (well keep the drawings with your comments really), everything should be back to normal. I've been working a lot on a new animated feature lately, in pre-production and recently animating. Which explains the rarity of posts... maybe I could add that it's hard to post the random sketches here, but I'll work on that !

The Tale of Despereaux

The Animation of "the Tale of Despereaux" draws to its end, I'm broading my horizons, and it is as an artist, then animator, that I'm going to make my debut at Animal Logic in Sydney. I'm leaving in a few days, and since my things arrive by ship within 2 months, I'll try to post new stuff at that time ! So here's a sneak preview of the job made by Framestore's artists:

Rhapsody in Blue

Yesterday I stumbled upon my concerts sketchbooks and monotypes I had done from it. I had never shown them before, but that's actually what I draw most of the time, between the many festivals I have attended in England and France, or various gigs which fill up my shelves.

Sometimes in the Fall

Today I'm sick and outside all is grey, Fall has taken its place. It's the occasion for posting this old sketch I painted as coming in Gobelins School (4 years yet...), and while watching Terminator for the anecdote...

Exit School (For a Film)

Finally ! The film of which I talk so much about, and that I co-directed last year at Gobelins, is now out on our website, through the link below. As for the photos, it is a quick view of the long work done on the direction, which allowed much more chasse-croise at the begining.

Interlude...

I've just arrived in London, and as for all new moving in, it will take some time before to find my marks. I'll be back to post new (and I hope plenty of) drawings very soon ! Until then, I'm going to work at Framestore as a Character Animator on their new animated feature film, "The Tale of Despereaux". So, be patient...

Heartbeats

Life drawings which are 2 years old now, made during my stay in the Bristol School of Animation, in Aardman Studios' sketches sessions.

Rooftop

Here it is, I leave Paris in 15 days, and I will keep some nostalgia, despite the hard years of study... The work I had done for the Canal J channel represent it, in form as much as in its heart. It was a one-minute short film, that as to be directed alone in 1 month, based on the theme "children's new heroes", named "l'Accrocheur d'Etoiles" (literally the Star Hanger).

Dreams be Dreams

Here are paper cuts illustrations I created a while ago (before my formation at Gobelins), and gave their name to this blog. Below is a montage of a short film I have realized in 2 weeks during my second year, 'l'Age du Capitaine'. It shows well my world evolved but its roots remain the same.

Blindfold

An image taken from my 3rd year film, "Blind Spot", co-directed with 5 classmates for 6 months. It introduces us to the main character, Yvette (whom I animated in this shot). The film won't be shown before several months, in order to not discredit it for festivals selections. So I'll post only few images, to keep what happen secret... (and let you dying for watching it !)

Persepolis

First sketches, not very representative of my work, but as Persopolis is now on screens, the event had to be marked. So here's a paste-up of the animation which gives me the opportunity of working on this film last year. In the film, the animation has been made by Christian Desmares, Director of Animation.
